Devils down Jets to take silverware

THE Luton, Dunstable & District Netball League Cup and Plate finals took place at Putteridge Recreation Centre on Saturday, with Third Division Luton Colts playing First Division Apollo in the Plate final.

Colts started brightly with two goals from shooter Sue Kemp going unanswered before Apollo began to dominate play, finishing the quarter 19-7 ahead. Apollo continued to pull ahead in the second quarter, with centre Nicola Maguire linking well with shooter Tracy Barnwell giving her opportunities under the post, which she duly converted.

Colts enjoyed bright passages of play in each quarter with some fine interceptions from centre Marie Pegram and wing defence Claire Jardine, but were unable to capitalise as Apollo moved 41-24 in front.

In the final quarter Apollo brought on rising star Natalie Brown in place of Barnwell, who moved to goalkeeper.

They got off to a slow start until goal defence and player of the match Lianne Brennan produced some fine turnovers, denying Colts’ Angela Beattie space in the circle as Apollo ran out 56-29 winners.
