Dunstable SC go the distance at gala

Dunstable SC hosted a long distance splash night earlier this month.

The two main events were the Boys Open 1,500m freestyle and the Girls Open 800m freestyle.

Dunstable’s swimmers were in fine form, breaking a host of club records.

Chantal Smith, 13, claimed first place in the 800m with a time of 9.52.04mins, while Harry Constantine, 12, clocked 19.10.89mins in the 1,500m, beating Alex Kerr’s best set in 2007.

Alex Neeson, 14, set a brand new record in the 1,500m, as did Sam Mead and Saric Newington in their age groups, along with Amy Spicer.

Smith and Constantine also set two regional qualifying times, while there were some other fine efforts from the club’s members.

Boys 10-11yrs: 1, Saric Lewington, 22.03.43mins; 2, Sam Mead, 24.16.65. 12-13: 2, Thomas Williams, 21.44.59mins; 3, Christopher Bedlington, 26.42.41. 14-15: 1, Oliver Hibbitt, 20.15.18mins; 2, Matthew Haden, 21.01.48. O16: 1, Paul Blessing, 20.27.83mins.

Girls 10-11yrs: 1, Amy Spicer, 14.46.53mins. 12-13: 2, Ava Wells, 13.13.21mins; 3, Eleanor Canning, 13.47.37. 14-15: 1, Sarah Louise White, 12.18.11mins.
