AFC claw past Tigers to maintain promotion push

AFC Dunstable maintained their push for promotion from the SSML Premier Division with a 3-1 win at London Tigers on Tuesday night.

The hosts had taken the lead after just 14 minutes when Jabir Laraba opened the scoring.

However, AFC were level moments before half time thanks to Jermaine Hall’s strike and in the second period, moved ahead when BJ Christie netted on 67 minutes.

Tigers were reduced to 10 men two minutes later as Sufyian Bettamer picked up his second booking it the space of 14 minutes to be shown a red.

AFC rubbed further salt in the wounds as Leon Cashman scored three minutes later to ensure victory in front of a crowd of 26.

The result saw AFC stay two points behind leaders Hoddesdon Town, after they eased to a 3-0 win at Oxhey Jets.

Third placed London Colney remain in the hunt after hammering FC Broxbourne Borough 8-0 as they trail AFC by seven points with two games in hand.

However, the division looks very much a three horse race now, as fourth place Hertford Town are 17 points off top spot.

This weekend, AFC host struggling Oxhey Jets, while they then face Barton Rovers on Tuesday night in the Beds Senior Cup final at Kenilworth Road.
