Courtney Massey’s injury-time strike wasn’t enough for AFC Dunstable as they lost 2-1 at home to Hadley at Creasey Park in the Molten Spartan SML Premier Division on Saturday.

Two early second half goals put the visitors in charge and Massey’s 91st-minute strike was mere consolation.

It what was a mediocre performance by AFC as Hadley deservedly took all three points from the encounter.

Manager Alex Butler said: “This was probably our poorest display of the season so far, with too many players choosing to play by themselves.

“It is frustrating because they all know we are far better than this performance, but it remains to be seen whether they have the character to bounce back on Wednesday – I believe they can.”

AFC started strongly and after six minutes BJ Christie was put clean through but he was denied by a fingertip save by the Hadley keeper.

Hadley battled hard as they worked their way into the game, defending well and counter-attacking with pace.

After the break AFC were hit with two quick goals, the first a smart strike from skipper Kevin Smith, and the second was an unfortunate own goal by Massey.

AFC went to three at the back in an effort to carry more of a threat going forward and created chances as both Dale Turney and Chris Francis should have done better.

Dunstable got their consolation though in stoppage time when Massey smashed home Christie’s whipped cross.

Although AFC chucked everyone forward for the remaining minutes it was Hadley who showed more tenacity and determination on the day.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) AFC head to London Lions, on Saturday go to Biggleswade United and on Wednesday week entertain Berkhamsted.
