The Creasey Park side had needed three more points to win the league, but the title was theirs without kicking a ball after nearest rivals Crawley Green lost 2-0 against Holmer Green.

On Wednesday evening, AFC then played Bedfordshire County League Division One side Great Barford in the Beds Intermediate Cup final at Biggleswade.

AFC completely dominated the first half as they bossed large periods and moved 2-0 ahead with goals from Adrian Pitfield and top scorer Oliver Buckley.

Barford then pulled one back at the start of the second half, but AFC quickly regained their two-goal cushion through Anthony Leslie on 51 minutes.

There were still some moments of panic for AFC as Barford struck the post from a free-kick and Matt Fallon had to pull off a couple of brave saves.

However, AFC held on and could even had added to their tally as manager Paul Axten said: “It’s great to win two trophies in my first full season with these young players.

“It is also excellent for the club, as six of the squad represent our U18 team as well.

“I thought we were a bit below par against Great Barford, but it is all about the result in the end in finals.

“Both teams delivered a good spectacle and the second half was quite nerve-racking as they upped their game.”

AFC now turn their attentions to the Championship play-offs on Tuesday, May 5 as the top two from the North & West and South & East leagues meet for the title of overall champions of the league’s Reserve Divisions.
