AFC Dunstable take bragging rights with Creasey Cup victory

The Blues were up against a number of former players in Leon Cashman, Newman Carney, Dale Turney and Moses Olaleye, as manager Tony Fontanelle changed his side from the 5-3 win over Bedford Town.

Chris Marsh, making his first start, showed some deft touches, but the presence of AFC’s Cashman as a front runner was having a noticeable effect, while Olalaye went close to an opener too.

Stewart Talbot saw his free kick punched clear and then James Kaloczi headed over for Dunstable, as striker Lee Roache was well marshalled.

AFC had the lead on 20 minutes, though, when Carney’s cross found Cashman who fired into the bottom corner.

Blues tried to respond, but too often Roache had his pocket picked in the area, while he headed over from Marsh’s cross.

After the break, Ferrari was well tackled when in sight of goal, but AFC had chances too, with Garry Jones clearing Carney’s corner.

However on 70 minutes, Dunstable were level as Ollie Cole netted after excellent work from Remy Forrester to create the chance.

If anything though, that saw AFC improve and they snatched what turned out to be the winner through Nathan Hilare late on.

Dunstable were at home to Aylesbury United last night and then visit Ware on Saturday.

AFC entertain Kings Langley tomorrow evening (Thursday), before hosting Gadebridge on Saturday and then visiting Thame United next Tuesday.
