Fourth-placed Colney Heath ran out comfortable 3-0 winners to end AFC Dunstable’s recent unbeaten run in the Molten Spartan SML Premier Division on Saturday.

Boss Steve Heath was not too downhearted though, as he said: “You have got to understand, Colney Heath are a good side and have only lost four times in the league.

“They get a lot of negative remarks about their play, but they showed why they are fourth in the league.

“They played some neat football today and the game was played in the right spirit.

“We are still a bit naive in our play and teams like Colney Heath will exploit this as they did this afternoon.

“We move on to Stotfold on Tuesday night and hopefully we can get our confidence back and turn in a decent performance.”

AFC made one change from last week’s win at Tring as Ryan Quinn replaced Connor Smith up front.

The visitors got off to the perfect start and took the lead within 90 seconds when a flowing move down the left saw Aaron Clarke finish a wicked cross at the far post.

The gusty conditions were troublesome for both teams as AFC started to probe the Colney defence.

Chris Francis had a chance to pull AFC level as he battled himself into a shooting position, but couldn’t find the target.

Having conceded so early, AFC competed well against a very strong side.

And the visitors doubled their lead on 56 minutes when Alfie Maci was caught in possession and Matt Standen punished AFC.

This boosted Colney’s confidence as they struck the post soon after before wrapping up the points on 79 minutes when AFC’s defence were again caught napping as Clarke scored his second.

Jamal Harvey had the chance to pull back a consolation, but Colney’s keeper pulled off a smart late save.

This Tuesday AFC head to Stotfold.

Attendance: 48.
