AFC Dunstable finally emerged victorious against Cockfosters at the third attempt after an excellent performance on Saturday.

The visitors made one change to their side, as Jason Beck came in for Fabio Bufano in the centre of defence.

It took AFC just 14 minutes to take the lead when a corner from Newman Carney was headed back across goal by Beck and Terry Griffiths was the first to react as he slotted home.

AFC continued to probe and soon it was 2-0 with a sublime finish by BJ Christie as he lobbed the keeper on 25 minutes following Leon Cashman’s flick from Ricky Perks’ clearance.

The visitors were now in complete control and on the half hour it was 3-0 as Newman Carney’s free kick struck the crossbar and Josh Humbert was on hand to tap home the rebound.

It was looking like how many AFC would score, but there was a 10-minute delay as the referee pulled up with a calf injury and once he was replaced, this seemed to affect the visitors.

They lost momentum and Cockfosters pulled a goal back before half time as a deflection ran kindly for Ben Hart who drilled the ball past Perks.

In the second period, the hosts nearly reduced the arrears only for Courtney Massay to make a fine goal-line clearance.

AFC came close to a fourth as well when Christie set up sub Jonny Cooper whose shot was heading into the bottom corner but for a wonderful save by Constable.

Boss Steve Heath said: “We were so comfortable for the first half an hour and were putting plenty of pressure on Cockfosters.

“The delay in play did us no favours, but I can’t complain, as that is another three points chalked off.”
