AFC Dunstable consolidated top spot in the SSML Premier Division with a 3-1 win at Oxhey Jets on Saturday.

The hosts changed their manager last week and gave six debuts to new players, while AFC had Jermaine Hall and Ricky Perks both out through injury.

Gary Malone made a rare start in goal, while BJ Christie returned upfront, with Fabio Bufano and Danny Jones came in too.

AFC had the best early chance when Brandon Carney’s header smashed against the crossbar, while Leon Cashman then saw his penalty claims waved away.

Another Newman Carney corner saw Danny Ryan’ head over as Christie saw his attempt cleared off the goal-line.

AFC did take the lead on 42 minutes though when Newman Carney’s corner this time saw Brandon head into the net.

Steve Heath’s side saw another penalty appeal rejected before half time as Brandon Carney appeared to be tripped.

After the break, Jets levelled when Adam Lowton scored, but AFC were back in front when they were finally awarded a penalty as Christie was fouled, Newman Carney making no mistake.

Josh Humber almost had a third from Jones’ cross, only to see the Jets keeper make a fine stop.

The game was finally put to bed with 15 minutes remaining though as Moses Olaleye set up Christie for his 11th goal of the season.

AFC boss Heath said: “We were not at our best and had to work hard for the points.

“One part of the game I was pleased with though, was we still created a few good chances. I know you cannot compare this season to last but we dropped four points against Oxhey last season, so at least we are in credit for this term.”
