AFC suffer surprise Vase exit

AFC Dunstable unexpectedly exited the FA Vase at the first round stage on Saturday as they were beaten 3-1 by a dogged Hatfield Town.

Hatfield took the lead after 20 minutes when AFC keeper Sam Leggett appeared to have the ball knocked from his hands, before it was bundled over the line by Matt Corran.

They went further ahead on the counter after 70 minutes through Chris Webb’s strike, before the hosts had Lee Burgoyne dismissed for verbal abuse.

The home side did manage to hit back late on through Danny Hollister’s own goal after good work by BJ Christie.

Christie and Clark both went close as AFC pushed for an equaliser, but Hatfield put the game to bed with a breakaway goal as Webb netted his second.

AFC whost Hertford Town in the first round of the Challenge Trophy on Wednesday night.
