After the disappointment of losing their unbeaten league record at the weekend, AFC bounced back straight away with a fine win at Cockfosters on Tuesday night.

With the game being the fourth time the sides have already met this season, it was a much-changed line up for the visitors as boss Steve Heath decided to rest a few players.

There was a substitute appearance by last season’s top scorer Jermaine Hall who took to the field and was involved in an assist.

AFC took the lead when Brandon Carney got on the end of a Danny Jones cross on 28 minutes, while it was 2-0 12 minutes from time when Hall set up Jordon Frederick to score his first goal for the club.

AFC will now travel to Hadley in round three as Heath said: “To come back from the reverse on Saturday shows great heart from my players.

“Cockfosters have strengthened their squad recently, so to come here on a Tuesday night shows great character.”

On being displaced from the top of the league by London Colney’s win in midweek, Heath added: “I don’t think it’s a bad thing not be top, as you are always there to be shot at.

“We have found teams in the lower parts of the league raise their games when we played them.”

AFC: Perks, Massay, Jones, Griffiths, Ryan, B Carney, Griffith, Byron, Cashman, Frederick, Bufano. Subs used: Hall, Biggadike, Crowys.

Attendance: 70.
