AFC’s resurgence continues with Saints win

Molten Spartan SML, Premier Division: St Margaretsbury 0 AFC Dunstable 2

AFC Dunstable followed up their Beds Senior Cup success last week with a comprehensive 2-0 victory at flying-high St Margaretsbury in the Molten Spartan SML Premier Division on Thursday night as they gained revenge for a home defeat earlier in the month.

Manager Alex Butler said: “This was an excellent win for us after going through a difficult transitional period with players coming and going, but the new players are now starting to bed in and are having a positive effect on the whole squad.”

The visitors started strongly and played with tempo and a swagger.

AFC created early chances before Graham Clark slammed the ball into the corner of the net after an exquisite pass by Dermot Butler.

In the second half AFC continued to control the game with the midfield trio of Craig Butler, Steve Hawes and Garth Harnaman influential.

And it was no surprise when Jonathan Cooper evaded two challenges on the edge of the box before firing into home to make it 2-0.

At the other end Ryan Darby, making a rare appearance in the AFC goal, made a couple of smart saves and, together with some excellent defending by Jak Lauder and Archie Ryan, AFC managed to see the game out with a clean sheet for a well-deserved win.

Biggleswade United’s visit to Creasey Park on Saturday was postponed and will now take place on Wednesday (April 3). On Tuesday night AFC are due to go to Hertford Town and on Saturday visit Oxhey Jets.
