All the odds as Hatters host Hartlepool

Luton Town's descent into the bottom-half of the League Two table continues, with the Hatters capitulating in their 4-1 defeat to AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow last weekend.

The performance, more so than the result, will have disappointed boss Nathan Jones, which has become something of a habit for Town this season and BetVictor make them 4/11 favourites to achieve a bottom-half finish this term, whilst 5/2 outsiders to finish in the ‘right half’ of the League Two table.

It’s difficult to assess where it all went wrong for the Hatters, with a slow start to the campaign followed by strong months in September and October and the Hatters cut to even money for promotion after winning five games from six in all competitions.

The 4-1 defeat of Hartlepool looked to be the sign for Town to kick-on and establish themselves at the top of the table but a run of five without a win seemed to test the nerves of former boss John Still and his backroom staff, with the squad struggling thereafter.

As it is Northampton head the betting for promotion, with the Cobblers cut to 1/5 (From 2/7) favourites for the title and 1/66 market leaders with BetVIctor to be playing League One football next term.

Promotion aspirations have to be put on hold until next term for Luton Town fans but they can build invaluable momentum towards next season, starting with Hartlepool’s visit to Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

Hatters are the 4/5 favourites to seal all three points; the visitors 7/2 and the draw 14/5.

Since the 2-0 defeat of Barnet in November the Hatters have won just four of their last 16 games in all competitions, three of which coming without conceding at the other end, and Luton appeal at both 5/2 to beat the visitors to nil on Saturday and 8/1 with BetVictor to do so by the 2-0 correct score.
