Appleton disappointed as Hylton chooses Hatters over Oxford

Oxford United head coach Michael Appleton has expressed his disappointment that striker Danny Hylton turned down a deal at the Kassam Stadium to sign for Luton Town.

The 27-year-old had been offered a new deal with the U’s but opted to move to Kenilworth Road instead as speaking to the Oxford official website, Appleton said: “We’re sad to see Danny leave because he has been very popular around the club and especially with the fans.

“We made him a much improved offer to stay but he has a young family to think of and we respect his decision and wish him well for the future.”

Hylton, will join up with former United captain Johnny Mullins, who also penned a two year deal with the Hattesr this afternoon, as chairman Darryl Eales said: “First and foremost we’d like to thank Danny and Johnny for everything they have done for Oxford United.

“They have both been terrific servants of the club, as well as being top blokes, and we wish them well in their new challenge.”
