Rovers began well as Kai Phelan headed narrowly wide, but they were thankful to keeper Niall Cooper for three top saves midway through the half from Adam Confue and Adam Creaney.

Barton created little goal threat, but Nathan Tshikuna should have done better than fire wide, and Dean Dummett spurned a golden chance right on half-time, with Osobu failing to convert the rebound.

After a scrappy start to the second half, Jack Bowen fired Town ahead on the hour, pouncing from close-range froma corner after Cooper had again saved at full stretch from Aaron King.

Cooper made yet another top save to deny Creaney after 68 minutes, but Rovers defensive cover was again slack from the corner, and the ball broke to Jarvis Wilson to apply a fine finish for 2-0.

Despite a raft of Barton changes, it was all Town and their pressure was rewarded with five minutes left when sub Taylor Orosz cut in from the right and blasted a low shot well out of Cooper’s reach.
