Barton Rovers slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Potters Bar Town in truly wet and windy conditions on Saturday.

Both teams started brightly but Rovers struggled to find their footing early doors as a the surface affected a number of players ability to stay upright.

The swirling wind and driving rain killed all hope of seeing an exciting game of football but as time passed Rovers finally adapted to the pitch. Winger Jordan Davis had an early chance for Barton but scuffed his shot and the returning Russell Bull just missed the target after a great Tom Peverall through ball.

It was Potters Bar who took the lead on 36 minutes when some sloppy play in midfield allowed Joe Bennett to slot home past visiting keeper Kyle Forster.

Heavy driving rain killed the rest of the half and at the break Potters Bar held a slender lead.

Barton started the brightest in the second period and levelled things up on 53 minutes when star man Ashton Grant latched on to a cross to slide past Mike Underwood in the home goal.

Parity was short-lived though as only three mins later a speculative long rang effort from Evandro Delgardo snuck in at the far post after Forster got his finger tips to it.

The introduction of fresh legs for Rovers in the shape of Tuki Tayali and Claudio Dias plus Potters Bar having a player dismissed for kicking out and their assistant manager sent off couldn’t herald a way back for the visitors though.

Barton travel to Ware tonight.
