Bedfordshire League preview: April 2

League leaders AFC Oakley M&DH, beaten just the once on the road all season, head to the Football Centre to play fourth place Flitwick Town who will be looking for their fifth home win on the bounce.

Whilst second place Renhold United, themselves to date only beaten on the road at AFC Oakley M&DH this season, make tracks to Weston Park to face sixth place Marston Shelton Rovers who are currently enjoying an eight game unbeaten run.

Still living in hope that the top two will falter during the closing month are third place Wilstead who at their Jubilee Playing Fields base look for their seventh win on the bounce when c Shefford Town & Campton visit.

Whilst it’s home action at Hillgrounds for fifth place AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College now beaten in their last two league outings against 12th place Pavenham whose last four away outings have all ended in defeat.

Meantime over at Woburn Road eighth place Ampthill Town Reserves will be looking to return to winning ways on home soil against tenth place Ickwell & Old Warden who, despite losing their last three away outings, will still have not forgotten their mid-January clash on the Green which saw them run out 7-0 winners.

Whilst at Harvey Close for third from bottom Caldecote, with just one home win to their name all season, will having won their last two away games fancy their chances of doubling that home tally when called upon by bottom of the table Elstow Abbey.

Elsewhere at Lodge Road for 11th place Sharnbrook the quest will be a first home league win of 2016 when paid a visit by second from bottom of the table Eastcotts AFC.

Whilst at Bedford Road Recreation Ground for the hosting 13th place Sandy, who are yet to win two home games on the bounce, the quest is just that when ninth place Cranfield United visit who will hit the road looking to avoid their third consecutive away defeat.

In Division One supported by Wests Citroen Bedford action for second place Sundon Park Rangers, beaten just the once on the road, it’s a trip to Miller Road to be hosted by fourth place Meltis Albion.

Whilst at Mill Lane for the hosting sixth place Potton Town the quest will be to take their unbeaten home ways up to six games when called upon by tenth place Westoning.

Elsewhere Rectory Road will be the venue at which ninth place Shefford Town & Campton Reserves, beaten in their last two league outings, host fifth place AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves who have been beaten just the twice on the road all season.

At Church Lane for bottom side AFC Oakley M&DH Reserves who are yet to win on home soil this season the visitors are third from bottom Riseley Sports.

Away from the league at Groveside it’s the staging of the delayed Centenary Cup Semi-final tie between hosts Henlow and the visiting Ickleford for the right to appear in this seasons final against Queens Park Crescents.

Earlier in the season the hosts at the same venue removed Ickleford from the Bedfordshire FA Intermediate Cup, but since that time Ickleford have taken their revenge in league action to suggest a close game could well be on the cards.

Division Two action is restricted to just four games and for second place Cranfield United, who have been beaten just the twice on the road, it’s a trip to Cutler Hammer to face second from bottom of the table Kempston Athletic who have won just the once on home soil.

Whilst now very much in the promotion race are third place Clapham Sports who at their King George VI Playing Field base where they still hold down a seasons 100% home record the visitors are ninth place Wootton Village who will be looking for just their second away win of the season.

Elsewhere at Pirton Recreation Ground for seventh place hosts Lea Sports PSG it’s the chance to repair the damage of four consecutive defeats, all gained on the road, when Bedford United visit.

Whilst at their Marston Playing Field base for bottom side Marston Shelton Rovers Reserves, who are now on a seven game losing run, the visitors are fourth place Flitwick Town Reserves who are unbeaten in their last eight league outings.

In Division Three the league action is a programme of just three games. At Jubilee Playing Fields with a 4.30pm kick off, third place Wilstead Reserves who are currently on an eight game winning run know if they are to collect this season’s silver medals then nothing less than the three points is required when second place Sundon Park Rovers visit. Rovers themselves are on a four game winning run and have been beaten just the once on the road all season.

Whilst for bottom of the table Clifton, with just two home wins to their name all season, it’s home Whiston Crescent action against third from bottom of the table Sandy Reserves who have not won on the road since their opening away game.

Meantime over at Redborne School on the 3G surface for eighth place hosts Dinamo Flitwick who have won just the twice at home all season the visitors are ninth place Shefford Town & Campton A who have won just the twice on the road all season.

Away from the league it’s also semi-final day in the Watson Shield when at, Horseshoes Close, for the hosting AFC Dunton the visitors are Renhold United Reserves. Their league encounter at the same venue back at the start of the season ended all square so to suggest today’s encounter could be another close affair.

Likewise in Division Four the league action is down to just two games but the Harvey Close encounter between hosts Caldecote A and the visiting Bedford Albion could well decide which of these teams gains the second automatic promotion spot behind league champions Mid Beds Tigers come the end of the month.

Meantime at Greenfield Road for eighth place hosts Westoning Reserves who are currently on a four game losing run the visitors are seventh place Flitwick Town A.

Away from the league it’s Watson Shield quarter-final day for Lidlington United Sports who travel to Lawrence Park to be hosted by Bedfordshire Saturday Youth side Ampthill Town. A trip to Harvey Close to face Caldecote A awaits the winners.
