Blues back to the top after Murphy’s cracker

Dunstable Town returned to the top of the Calor Southern League Division One Central table with a 1-0 victory over AFC Hayes on Saturday.

A long range effort from left-back Danny Murphy five minutes into the second half was enough to see Dunstable back at the summit after Rugby Town lost 2-1 at Northwood.

Visitors Hayes dominated possession for the bulk of the first half but didn’t create any clear-cut chances.

The Blues were up and running, with Lee Roache foiled by impressive goalkeeper Damian Lafeuille, who made a number of remarkable saves.

After the break, Murphy gave Dunstable the lead with a wonder strike, and they threatened more goals as Nathan Frater, Tony Burnett and Roache were all denied.
