Dunstable Town fell to a disappointing defeat against Cirencester Town on Saturday, producing a meek performance in a 2-0 reverse.

The Blues were completing an arduous week of matches, which had seen them play three away games in the space of six days, as there was a lethargic feeling to the opening forays.

The visitors had the first real attempt through Matt Liddiard, as they looked the more likely to score, Shayne Anson firing over from a corner, while James Mortimer-Jones was also wasteful, with Ross Langworthy heading wide too.

Dunstable didn’t threaten a great deal, Howard Hall’s cross deflected behind, with Mark Smith heading the resulting set-piece off target.

A goalless first half saw the deadlock quickly broken at the start of the second period when Liddiard netted unchallenged from a corner, as they came close to a second when Scott Griffin’s effort was repelled by defender Adam Pepera.

Griffin went close once more, before Jonathan Edwards tried a shot for Dunstable, with David Keenleyside also firing wide.

Hall’s long throws were still dangerous and from one of these Smith had a header on target but it did not beat Josh Langley.

With Chris Vardy combining with Edwards, the latter had a weak shot and he was then replaced by Lee Roache.

Griffin was wide again and Blues substitute Connor Calcutt had a chance that was deflected for a corner, from which Steve Wales shot off target.

Another move from James Kaloczi and Vardy saw the latter’s shot held as Dunstable tried to mount a fightback, but they were indebted to an excellent double save by Bart Pedrycz to prevent them falling further behind.

However, with seven minutes remaining, the visitors scored their second as a free kick enabled Liddiard to double his tally.

Zack Reynolds hit the bar for Dunstable late on, but they were beaten as they now head on the road once more, visiting Frome Town on Wednesday night and then Poole Town at the weekend.
