Blues confirm Fontanelle as first team boss

If Dunstable had replicated the stylish play they showed in the reverse fixture on the south coast, this game might have had a sting in its tail. What transpired was that the leaders did enough in the first half to bag a couple of goals and then use the second half to contain the expected earnestness of their hosts.

Making his debut in goal for the Blues was Bartolomij Pedrycz who was forced into an early save.

Dunstable’s counter play early on impressed and it was from one splendid move that they almost snatched the lead.

Terry Dixon had combined with the eager Charlie Henry, and the pass to the lurking McKenzie-Lowe was good enough for a shot – but Hutchings was alert enough to smother the chance.

The Dolphins took the lead when Luke Burbidge’s cross went straight into the top corner of the net. It was a remarkable goal and one that fully exposed the frailties of the home defence.

Burbidge then doubled the lead just past the half hour with a similar goal to his first, only at a closer range and also from the right.

The hosts did actually improve considerably in this second period – but not in terms of goal attempts. The expected substitutions were delayed until the last 10 minutes and by then it was all too late.

Henry and Marsh showed some urgency but the best chances came from set pieces that were entirely ineffective in their execution.

Dunstable will be hoping to improve their desperate home form this weekend when they welcome Hitchin Town to Creasey Park.
