Blues hold on to beat Langford

Langford 1 Dunstable Town 2

DUNSTABLE Town ended a run of three Molten Spartan SML Premier games without a win after a hard-fought 2-1 victory at bottom-of-the-table Langford on Tuesday night.

Blues were missing a number of regulars and were under the cosh for the opening 20 minutes, but went ahead against the run of play on the half-hour mark. Jonathan Cooper won possession in the centre of midfield and sent a through ball to Niall Williams, who finished smartly into the bottom corner, for his second goal in two starts.

The visitors kept the lead going into the interval and made it 2-0 with just 10 minutes gone in the second half as Jonathan Barnett curled a delightful free-kick into the net. Langford hit back immediately though as Sam Nicholls’ cross was cleared only as far as Nathan Moulton who bundled the ball home.

Dunstable brought on Grant Carney for the injured Cooper and were always dangerous on the counter-attack with chances for Kerran Birch, Luke Lincoln and Carney all foiled. Blues keeper Paul Taylor was alert to prevent the hosts from equalising, although Langford substitute Tom Dolan had a golden chance to level late on, but could only head wide.

Dunstable, whose home league match with Kentish Town was cancelled on Saturday due to further generator problems, are due to travel to Royston Town this weekend.
