Cook knows places are up for grabs as Town head to Eagles
New Town signing Jordan Cook is well aware just how important pre-season is for the players at Kenilworth Road to force themselves into the selection plans of boss Nathan Jones.
Cook is one of six signings who have come in so far over the summer and knows he has to impress his new manager to be in the team for the opening League Two fixture at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, August 6.
After a 0-0 draw against FC Paksi in Hungary at the weekend, Luton begin their domestic pre-season schedule at Southern League Division One Central side Bedford Town this afternoon.
On trying to impress Jones to earn his place in the first team, Cook said: “That’s the plan, definitely, and I think that’s everyone’s plan to be fair.
“Everyone’s come back really fit and sharp, so I think the manager will have a few headaches come the first game of the season.”
After this weekend, Hatters head to National League side Boreham Wood on Tuesday night, before hosting Championship outfit Brighton the following Saturday.
They then hit the road once more, travelling to Woking and also entertain Walsall, who Cook turned down a new contract with to join Luton.
On the Saddlers game, the forward said: “That one’s quite exciting, I’m looking forward to that as hopefully I can get one over some mates.”
Meanwhile on-loan keeper Christian Walton is expecting a good test during the friendly games, as he said: “We’ve got Brighton and the local teams, Woking, they will be all fit and ready. We’ve had a great week out in Hungary, with some good hard sessions and everyone putting in the work. Then it’s coming back and playing those local games going into the games at Kenilworth Road.
“So they’re going to be good test and put us in good stead for the first game at Plymouth.”
