Town replied with an effort from Mana Bonso which Dean Bull turned round for a corner and after 19 minutes, the hosts should have taken the lead but Jordan McFarlane saw his shot cannon against the bar.

Green’s Adam Reid also hit the woodwork, while O’Dell and Chris Gibson both had chances before Crawley created their best opening of the game after 32 minutes.

O’Donnell went through but his effort was blocked by Moore, while the rebound fell to Gibson who lifted his shot over the bar from close range.

Four minutes later though, Crawley took the lead as Newman met Reid’s corner with a thumping header to find the net.
