Crawley Harp on after win

CRAWLEY Green claimed a deserved 3-0 win at local rivals Harpenden Town on Tuesday night to go fifth in Molten Spartan SML Division One with two games to play.

Neither side carried much of a goal threat in the opening 20 minutes, with Robbie O’Dell shooting over for Crawley and home keeper Dean Bull denying Mark Hitchcock.

Crawley took the lead on 27 minutes when Stuart Strange’s cross was firmly headed home by Vinny Shrieves.

Green should have doubled their lead before the break when Nick Nolan shot over from Jamie Warne’s free-kick.

In the second half, Tom Burns and Jimmy Hill had half-chances for Town but Crawley always looked dangerous on the break.

The Maroons doubled their lead on 68 minutes when O’Dell’s cross was headed back by Shrieves and Courtney Massey was hand to score.

Sam Peverall then whipped in a corner on 84 minutes and Lee Hayward rose to head past Matt Lord.

Ben Warren shot wide in the dying moments for Town as Crawley triumphed.

Green beat Langford 3-1 at the weekend with goals from Warne, O’Dell and Shrieves and on Saturday they travel to Chesham United Reserves.
