The centre half, who has been an instrumental part of Luton’s defence this term left the field in clear discomfort on 70 minutes, as boss Nathan Jones said: “It’s too early to tell, but it’s a difficult one because he’s done something to his hamstring.

“We knew that there’s something there with his hamstring, so that’s why rest him for midweek games and we play him, rotate, use the squad, because we have the squad to do that.

“It’s for this eventuality, because when he does play, on a regular basis, then he’s prone to that kind of injury.”

Cuthbert was part of a defence that Jones opted to alter from last weekend’s 4-0 win at Yeovil, as he recalled Dan Potts to left back, meaning Alan Sheehan moved over to centre half, with Glen Rea as holding midfielder.

However, the Luton boss then switched again at the break, bringing Luke Gambin on for Potts as Rea dropped back into defence, with Sheehan full back once more.

When asked why he had made changes, Jones added: “We picked a side to be strong and on the front foot like we were last week, but we didn’t do that.

“We weren’t on the front foot, so we made a change to get on the ball a bit more.

“We were better second half, created far more chances, had a lot more of the play, but it just wasn’t to be and was a disappointing result.”
