Cuthbert sidelined by hamstring injury

The 29-year-old suffered the problem in the 2-0 defeat against Stevenage last weekend and missed the goalless draw at Carlisle United on Tuesday night.

Speaking to the press this afternoon, Luton boss Nathan Jones said: “Cuthbert will be a few weeks, he’s tweaked his hamstring, so we’ll be without him.”

However, there was better news regarding both Johnny Mullins and Dan Potts, after the latter was stretchered off with a head injury at Brunton Park in midweek.

Joes continued: “He’s (Mullins) pain free now. He was just having a little bit of pain in his left just below his know.

“He played probably slightly too soon for the Oxford game but he’s back. We took him out of the firing line to make sure we’ve got as many available leading into the end of the season because everyone’s going to be vital.

“Then, we’re just assessing Potts. It was was good news, nothing serious with Potts, he’s been in today, so we’ll assess him tomorrow and make a decision them.”

In the absence of both Cuthbert and Mullins, Glen Rea and Alan Sheehan reformed their central defensive pairing that had been so impressive for the club last term on Tuesday night.

Jones said: “They did very well and they enjoy playing together.

“They’re good friends, they enjoy that battle and they were magnificent when they did play.

“They played a lot together last year, big wins against Oxford and Carlisle away. They’re a good pairing, good balance, one right foot, one left foot, both can play, both want to be aggressive, on the front foot.

“We’re blessed in terms of when we lose one or two of our centre halves, we’ve got real gooduns to step and we’re happy with that squad.”

On playing alongside Rea once more, Sheehan himself said: “It was me and Glen’s first chance to play together this year, which is not surprising I suppose, but maybe a strange one really as we played a lot together last year and we won a lot of games.

“We won up here (at Carlisle) and Oxford, but people have been playing well. So now it’s me and Glen out there and we kept a clean sheet and were very solid.”

Sheehan, who made his 50th appearance for the club at Brunton Park has been used at full back and centre half this term, and when asked about the recent chopping and changing, he added: “It is what it is. I don’t mind playing left back, and I think we all know that in the diamond, you need wing backs.

“I’m not your typical Jack Senior, your Potts, but I’ll be solid there when I play there.

“In centre back I’m probably not your average meathead League Two centre back. But I like to think I’m better in the air than people think, so I’ll play wherever I’m told to and I’m okay with it.”
