The 29-year-old has only played 14 times this season, his last appearance coming on December 6, as he is yet to feature for new manager Nathan Jones.

The boss said: “He’s just had a minor clean out of his knee, just got a little bit of floating cartilage in there, so that will keep him out for six weeks.

“That’s a bit of setback for him, because he’s one that needs to train, needs to get games, because he’s lacked that.

“He’s one that we’re looking forward to getting back out and getting him back fit.”

Jones admitted he was aware of Doyle before arriving at the club, saying: “I’ve seen him play, seen him at Barnsley and when he’s played for this club as well, so I do know him.

“But he’s injured at the minute so doesn’t come into our reckoning or our thoughts for a little while.”

Meanwhile, Ryan Hall might be back in contention for Saturday’s trip to Wycombe, although Danny Green (ankle) and Josh McQuoid (knee) are both missing.

Jones added: “There are no fresh ones which is good, and the other ones are making steady progress.

“He’s (Hall) probably the closest out of the three, we’re just checking on his fitness, so he’s one we’ll assess.”
