Dunstable destroy St Margaretsbury to extend their lead at the top

Molten Spartan SML, Premier Division: St Margaretsbury 0 Dunstable Town 6

Playing their first league match for a month Dunstable Town showed that the four successive postponements had not affected their form as they crushed St Margaretsbury 6-0 in the Molten Spartan SML Premier Division last night (Tuesday).

High-flying St Margaretsbury were put to the sword on their own ground with three goals in each half.

The rout began early with the Blues scoring from virtually their first attack.

Granted a free-kick just outside the area, Newman Carney’s measured delivery was headed home by central defender Graeme Buchanan.

Another inch-perfect forward pass from Moses Olaleye picked out top marksman Lee Roach who outpaced his marker to net the second after 11 minutes.

A similar threaded ball on 14 minutes saw new signing BJ Christie score his first league goal for the club and as Dunstable’s dominance over their fourth-placed host was increasingly evident.

With a three-goal lead at the interval the Blues refused to let up and improved their goal difference with three further strikes.

Another accurate free-kick from Carney was deftly finished by Roach, who brought his season’s tally to a remarkable 36 goals.

Goal number five came when Nick Jackson, returning from a long spell out injured, followed up a rebound on 75 minutes, while the sixth goal came three minutes from time via a calm finish from Nathan Frater.

Victory increased Town’s lead over Oxhey Jets at the top of the table to five points, with the Jets having a game in hand.

This was Dunstable’s 24th league game of the season and they remain unbeaten.
