Dunstable Town 4 London Tigers 0

A COMFORTABLE 4-0 win over London Tigers on Tuesday night put Dunstable Town level on points with Molten Spartan SML Premier Division leaders Royston Town, who lead by a mere plus three goal difference.

Tigers, who held the Blues 2-2 in the corresponding fixture, put up stubborn resistance as Dunstable had to patiently probe for the breakthrough.

The best chances came from a succession of free-kicks that went either wide or were effectively blocked.

It took over half an hour for the Blues to break the Tigers down as Nick Jackson’s free-kick was fumbled over the line by keeper Jeremy Boateng.

Dunstable reasserted their dominance with a more fluid second half performance as Matthew Judge squeezed home from close range and three minutes later top scorer Nathan Frater added a third.

The fourth goal came when Lee Roache netted from close range.

Tigers were simply outfought and made very few forays forward as Paul Taylor did not have to field a single shot, but dealt effectively with several crosses in the last few minutes.

Director of football John McLoughlin said: “It was another clean sheet and four goals is the perfect response as the lads knew the task in hand.”

On Saturday the Blues had romped to a fantastic 7-2 victory at Hatfield Town thanks to braces from Frater and Jonathan Cooper, plus goals from Judge, Jackson and Peter Holmes.

Town face AFC in the big Dunstable derby on Saturday and on Tuesday they entertain Leighton Town in semi-finals of the Bedfordshire Senior Cup.

McLoughlin added: “We rested a few ready for the AFC game and we should be at full strength for Saturday’s match.

“We are quite clear we need three points from all games and we must approach each game as we would on any match day and not get involved with the hype of this derby game.

“We respect all opponents, however, AFC left a bitter taste in our mouths after the final whistle but win or lose we will act professionally as I have a lot of respect for their players.”
