Dunstable Town triumph to go 15 points clear

Molten Spartan SML, Premier Division: Dunstable Town 4 Biggleswade United 0

Dunstable Town completed the double over neighbours Biggleswade United and showed their effectiveness at set-pieces as they beat them 4-0 in the Molten Spartan SML Premier Division on Tuesday night.

The opening goal came direct from a Newman Carney free-kick on the edge of the area on 12 minutes, while the second was a virtual replica from Nathan Frater five minutes later.

BJ Christie was unfortunate to see both his efforts go just wide, while Frater retrieved his deflected effort from the byline and cross for Nick Jackson to head home the third after 33 minutes.

Christie finally got on the scoresheet a minute before the break when he got the final touch to a goalmouth scramble.

Carney netted again from a direct free-kick, but saw it ruled out for offside after a Dunstable player ran across the keeper and was deemed to be interfering with play.

Dunstable created further chances but the visitors, playing for pride, were determined not to concede any further goals and squandered their best chance as Robin Freeman dragged wide when he ought to have scored.

Nearest rivals Oxhey Jets, meanwhile, were held to a draw which means the Blues are now fifteen points clear at the top of the table, although Jets do have two games in hand.

The result means Town are now unbeaten in 31 league games this season and face London Colney on Saturday, before travelling to Oxhey in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup on Tuesday night.
