The former Hatters striker saw his side penalised when Jamie Turley was harshly adjudged to have upended Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu in the area, as Cameron McGeehan netted from the spot.

The Exiles chief said: “They didn’t cut us open and the referee’s given them that and that’s the most disappointing thing.

“You can tell from the referee not wanting to speak to me that he’s in two minds as to go down that easy, they (Luton) know they got out of jail tonight.

“You could tell from their celebrations at the end, but the good thing is we’ve got to play them again.

“I’ve told that to the players at the end, so don’t worry about it and you can see our hunger and desire.

“We’re an honest bunch, we stood toe-to-toe together, I’m just disappointed for them as we didn’t deserve that at all as it was an absolute total disgraceful decision.”

When asked for his thoughts on the incident, plus Newport’s tactics throughout the match, Town boss Nathan Jones added: “I haven’t seen it properly and I don’t care, I absolutely don’t care, because Cameron McGeehan showed a bravery to take two penalties with all the rigmarole that’s going on.

“If he’s dived then I don’t condone that, but there was a lot of antics going on in this game that tried to slow the game, negate the game.

“Someone stamped on my keeper’s foot, it’s part and parcel of football, it’s a great part and parcel of football.

“We tried to play like Luton and tried to earn our chances, earn our possession, earn everything we do and that was absolutely magnificent.”
