The 36-year-old began his career with the Essex club, before spells at Charlton, Swindon, Portsmouth and Cheltenham, until heading to Kenilworth Road, under previous manager John Still in August 2013.

He scored 25 goals in 85 appearances, proving an integral part of Luton’s promotion from the Conference in the 2013-14 campaign, forging a lethal partnership with striker Andre Gray.

Benson only played 23 times for Luton last season though, netting five goals, as he was released by Nathan Jones in the summer and has now linked up with Still yet again, who is in charge at Victoria Road.

He was unveiled to the Daggers fans during Saturday’s 3-0 win over Southport in the National League and on his arrival, Benson told the club’s official website: “It’s very good, I came down, met John and said to him this is where I want to come back to and he’s been brilliant in trying to get it to work.

“The first day of pre-season when I came down with the lads, it just felt like it was perfect for me and I’m just delighted that I managed to get it over the line both for myself and the club. I’m really looking forward to getting going now.”
