Gray was quickly won over by Luton boss Jones' plans

The 20-year-old swapped life as a Premier League player with Crystal Palace last week to sign for Luton on a two year deal.

Speaking about his move, Gray admitted that he was raring to put pen to paper after witnessing first hand the work done by Jones to show him how much he was wanted at Kenilworth Road.

He said: “He brought me in and put a presentation up on the wall and talked me through the plans for the club, what he expects from me, what he likes about me, that kind of stuff.

“It was nice to see, to be wanted and just showed how much he likes the club and likes me.

“He just sold me the club really and it’s really exciting the plans that they’ve got.

“Once he gets out of this league, he’s got players here who can play at a higher level. So we’re all young, hungry players and with the experience we’ve got here as well, we can all learn off the older ones here.

“The training ground move too, he said that would be very good, so it’s exciting times here to be honest and I’m looking forward to being part of it.”

Gray had expected the move to be a loan one to begin with but, after a chat with the Palace hierarchy, it was decided to seek permanent new pastures.

He continued: “It all happened quite quickly, I’m just buzzing it got over the line.

“Initially it was meant to be a loan and things just changed.

“The Palace first team staff just thought it would be best for me to leave, get some games and get some action and start my career really.

“So I’m really thankful to them as it’s worked out brilliantly for me really.”

Although Gray was leaving Selhurst Park and the Premier League it was never a sticking point, as he said: “I don’t see it as a step back or dropping down to be honest, I just see it as a step forward and moving in the right direction.

“It’s a massive club and I’ve played in front of the fans, not in a Luton Town shirt, but I’ve heard them and they get massive support each week home and away.

“I’m delighted to be honest, and it couldn’t have worked out any better for me.”

Gray is fairly experienced at the level too, having playing 29 times for Hartlepool in League Two last season, which he believes has prepared him for life as a Hatter.

He said: “I’m thankful for that really, as it’s put me in good stead and it was a good season.

“I know what the league’s about and am hopefully ready to show everyone what I can do this year.”

On Town’s possession based method of football under Jones, Gray added: “That’s what attracts players like me to the club as well.

“Players like to play on the floor, so when he (Jones) sat me down, he told me about that, it was another brilliant attraction for me to play that kind of football.”
