The 27-year-old was stretchered off with his leg in a brace after sliding in on Cobblers full back Josh Lelan at the weekend, with Luton boss Nathan Jones confirming the worst at his press conference yesterday.

He said: “It’s an unfortunate one, he’s had a break of both bones and has had a rod put in there, which will mean a minimum 12 to 16 weeks recovery time.

“But we hope that with the right guidance and with the right work he’ll be able to do that and come back stronger.”

It means that Green is likely to miss most of pre-season at Kenilworth Road, which Jones believes is going to be a crucial part of his squad’s preparation for next term.

He added: “I think it’s such a vital time the pre-season. You get players in, get six weeks to work with them, to shape them, to mould them and then you start afresh.

“If you can get a good start after a good pre-season, it sets you up nicely and that’s what we’re looking forward to.

“First it’s time for the players to enjoy the the off season, for them to go away, rest and relax. It’s important that they do that as it’s going to be a tough time that they come back into.

“It’s going to be a good time, productive time, but they’re going to be in for some hard work.”
