Green’s fourth win in 10 days

Football: Crawley Green recorded their fourth win in 10 days when they deservedly beat Codicote 3-1 in Molten Spartan SML Division One.

Crawley dominated a scrappy opening which was delayed for over 20 minutes due to the late arrival of an official.

Jamie Warne burst through on five minutes but his effort was turned behind by Billy Barnes in the Codicote goal.

Two minutes later Vinnie Shrieves set up Adam Reid but his effort cannoned back off the post.

It was no surprise when Crawley took the lead a minute later when Chris Harvey headed home Peter O’Donnell’s corner.

Crawley continued to press and after 25 minutes good between O’Donnell, Reid and Robbie O’Dell set up Warne but his shot flew just wide.

Codicote equalised against the run of play on the stroke of half time though when Sean Downey turned Liam Errington’s free-kick into his own net.

The Maroons duly restored their lead eight minutes into the second half when O’Dell cut in and drove home.

Shortly after Adam Furness headed wide from an Errington corner, before Crawley sealed victory on 67 minutes with their third.

Downey headed back a cross from Adam Dedman and Chris Crook drove in the rebound.

In the closing stages Dean Bull made two outstanding saves from Alec Thomas and Lee Roy Williams and, despite playing seven extra minutes, Crawley triumphed.

On Saturday Crawley entertain Welwyn Garden City.
