Hat-trick for Hoenes as Barton bag magnificent seven!

Rhys Hoenes bagged a hat-trick as Barton Rovers began life without striker Keshi Anderson with a wonderful 7-1 win at Daventry Town on Tuesday night.

The game started at a fierce pace, but Barton took the lead on 18 minutes when Hoenes netted his first of the evening.

Rovers’ advantage was short-lived as just 6 minutes later, a long kick from home keeper Ben Heath allowed Ian King a run on goal, and he slotted calmly past Kyle Forster.

Forster had to make some good saves before the interval, but Barton were ahead in fortuitous fashion as Ben Sawyer whipped in a cross that was deflected beyond his own keeper by Daventry’s Craig McKay.

In the second period though, Barton were rampant as they created a number of chances before Hoenes was upended in the box, allowing Kev Kilroy to smash the penalty in with ease.

Daventry then put the white flags out as Hoenes grabbed his second, Luton Town youngster Tuki Tayali made it 5-1 and then Hoenes completed his hat-trick with seven minutes to go.

Sawyer’s rasping shot cannoned back off the bar, but he made amends late on, firing into the net in what was Barton’s biggest win of the season.

Joint manager Richard Wilmot said: “It was a great display from Ben Sawyer and Tuki Tayali, but Hoenes was pure class.

“The scoreline did flatter us a bit after Daventry put up such a spirited first half performance but it’s a game of 90 minutes as we all know.”

Rovers travel to Bedworth on Saturday before hosting St Ives Town on Tuesday.
