The 23-year-old was one of three offered new contracts at Kenilworth Road, along with Zane Banton and Craig King after impressing since the new manager took over in January.

Ruddock Mpanzu featured in 16 of Jones’ 21 games in charge, scoring twice, as opposed to just eight times in five months under previous boss John Still.

Jones said: “We’ve offered Pelly a new contract one that we feel is befitting what he’s done so far, in terms of his steady progression.

“Before I came here he had a very sporadic time I think we’ve pigeon holed certain things.

“We’ve got him fitter, got him stronger, got him more durable, we’ve not given him a little bit more structure to his game.

“So hopefully it’s an exciting time for Pelly, but Pelly has to grasp that, Pelly has to want to be here for a start.

“So I can’t comment too much on it, as soon as Pelly confirms or rejects the contract we’ve offered them, then we can move from there.”
