With 15 minutes gone, the wideman slide in on home defender Josh Lelan, only to suffer a sickening injury that saw Green require oxygen before being stretchered off.

Jones said: “Ironically it was the only time we put a tackle in the first half and Danny looks like he’s broken his leg which is unfortunate for him.

“Because he’s come back in, trying to work hard and trying to get levels of fitness so he can keep going and then that’s giving a real set back now.,

“So that’s disappointing and we’ll gauge it, but we wish him well.”

Lelan was only shown a yellow card for his part in the challenge and Jones felt it was the correct call, attaching no blame to the Cobblers full back.

He added: “I’ve looked at it again, there’s no real blame and if anything he’s probably protecting himself.

“Greeny’s probably gone in the more ferocious if you like, it’s a good 50/50 challenge and sometimes these things happen.

“I think the referee gave the right decision, we just hope Danny recovers quickly but no blame on the lad whatsoever.”
