Banton came on after 73 minutes, making his league debut for the Hatters and his first appearance since being a late sub in an FA Cup tie at Welling way back on November 9, 2013.

Meanwhile, Musonda, the U18s captain, had the final five minutes for his home bow, after playing at Mansfield in January, as Jones said: “Frankie Musonda has been outstanding for the youth team, with Magnus (Okuonghae) being out, it gave him an opportunity to come in, so we want to do that.

“I thought he was very, very comfortable. Once he could have defended better, but apart from that, he looked very, very comfortable.

“Zane’s been very sharp for a number of months now, so it’s just we felt the right opportunity. We needed that little bit of sharpness and he didn’t let himself down in any way.”

Keeper Elliot Justham also spoke highly of the pair for their impacts, although didn’t expect anything different, as e said: “We train with them daily and know they’re very good players, so it’s no surprise for us they come on and look the part.

“Frankie came on, was getting on the ball and looked comfortable, while Zane came on and looked to have a real spark about him and that’s what Zane brings.

“So it’s good to see them lads, and there’s loads of youth lads who could step up to the bench or start, they’re good lads and the lads are right behind them whoever plays.

“If he (Jones) thinks that’s the right way to go them I’m sure he’ll play them, but we train with them and there’s some very, very good young lads here, who will fit in straight away.”

However, Jones won’t just be throwing in youngsters willy nilly for the remaining six games as he is determined Luton finish a disappointing season on a high, adding: “We still want to win football matches as we want to be fair to other teams.

“We want to finish as high as we can, I don’t want to just give people debuts and lose football matches, I don’t want to do that, I want to win games.

“But if the opportunity arises and people have earnt a chance to make debuts and so on, then we’ll give them the debuts.”
