Hatters boss keeping both eyes firmly on Barnet

With Town out of action due to Dagenham & Redbridge’s international call-ups, Wycombe’s 1-0 win over Mansfield saw the Chairboys leapfrog Leyton Orient, who lost 1-0 at Accrington Stanley, to occupy the final play-off berth, extending the gap on Luton to seven points.

When asked if he was still eying a place in the top seven with just nine games to go though, Jones said: “We’ve got two eyes on Barnet, so if I had three eyes I’d have one eye on the play-offs, but we’ve got two eyes on Barnet, that’s it, literally.

“I know it’s cliched but we keep saying it, it’s boring I know, not what you want to here, but it’s true.

“We’re not looking at the play-offs because so many teams are looking at that type of thing. All we have to do is keep concentrating on ourselves, preparing a team to win a game and that’s what we’ll do.”

Hatters face a tough test on their hands in order to do that with a trip to Barnet on Monday, as the Bees have the fifth best home record in the division this term.

With Martin Allen’s side making the long terk to Exeter on Good Friday, where they were held to a 1-1 draw, Jones wasn’t convinced it would give Hatters any kind of advantage going into the game.

He added: “You can’t fathom it, they might be in rhythm after playing, or good form, or good spirits, you just don’t know.

“All we can to do is to prepare our team to play Barnet as best we can and maybe we’re fresher maybe we’re not, maybe we’ll be rusty, I’m sure we’ll find out 5 o’clock on Monday.”
