Hatters boss wants his side to back up Minstermen victory

Hatters boss Nathan Jones has urged his side to back up Saturday's excellent win at York City with a home success over Morecambe this evening.

Victory for the Town would see them record three league triumphs in a row for only the second time this season, the last time back in September, when coincidentally, the Shrimps were the opponents once more.

Jones said: “We’d like to back up an away win with a home one. A friend of mine at Brighton who’s big on the stats, says if you do this you’re a good side, if you do that you’ll be a good side.

“It’s no good having a good away performance, then letting yourselves down in your home games.

“It’s important now that we can add some consistency in performances, then if we can add some consistency in performances, it will mean some consistency in results.”

On whether the visitors, who travel down to Kenilworth Road on the back of seven defeats in eight matches, picking up just one point from 24, will be low on confidence, Jones continued: “I hope so, but I can’t guarantee it.

“I know how Jim Bentley gets his teams playing, they’re a good footballing side and have a lot of dangerous individuals.

“So it will be as equal a challenge as if we were playing Northampton, I know that, and I’ve watched enough of the games to know they’re a good side.

“I watched them at Yeovil a while ago and actually flagged a few of their players up in terms of when I was at Brighton.

“As they had some good players, good individuals so it’s going to be a real difficult game.

“All we can do is concentrate on ourselves though. We prepare, knowing what they can do but we’re more concerned about what we do.

“We’ll give them the due respect as they are a good side, and we know what they have, they may not be in good form, but form at times is temporary, so we’re very wary of a difficult, difficult opponent.”

Despite struggling for results, the Shrimps remain potent on their travels, as they are the joint third highest scorers on the road in the league this season, with Luton, netting 28 times.

Although leading scorer Shaun Miller is suspended, 37-year-old Kevin Ellison notched his eighth goal during Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Carlisle as Jones added: “With Ellison, he has been around and knows where the goal is, he’s a real threat.

“They have goals in them so what we have to do is, we know their strengths, we have to combat their strengths, but we have to make sure that we’re at our game, that’s what I’m more concerned about.

“That’s why at York on Saturday we came in at 0-0, but we didn’t do the things that we did, that we needed to do to win the game.

“That’s what we need to focus on, we need to focus on Luton Town and once we get Luton Town right, that’s when we can start affecting things.”
