Hatters fans urged not to travel to Hungary for friendly

Luton Town have urged supporters not to travel to Hungary for a pre-season friendly planned next month.

Hatters boss Nathan Jones confirmed recently that he will be taking his side abroad for a week-long training camp in early July, with a training match arranged against a yet to be named local team.

Some Town fans had planned to travel to Hungary and support the team, but a statement on the club’s official website confirmed the game will be a behind closed doors encounter and should fans attend, it would have to be cancelled.

The statement read: “It is understood, and very much appreciated, that some Luton Town supporters have already begun preparations to travel to Hungary to offer their backing to the team.

“Under any normal circumstances this loyal support and the expense incurred would be most welcome by Nathan and his players, especially being more than 1,000 miles from Kenilworth Road.

“Unfortunately, the club are disappointed to have been informed that despite our protestations, any match that can be arranged will have to be played strictly behind closed doors.

“We are sorry that our supporters will not be able to watch the team out in Hungary, but the venue have stressed that logistically they would struggle to cope with any kind of crowd and the match would not be allowed to go ahead if supporters were to attend.”
