Hatters rated v Carlisle United

Matt Macey: 7.5 - Far more composed display by the on-loan keeper as he came out for crosses well and his quick distribution ensured Luton were on the front foot quickly. Promising performance.

Stephen O’Donnell (STAR MAN): 7.5 - Defender looked very competent throughout and got forward well, with some good deliveries into the danger area. Excellent saving tackle late on when Carlisle looked like they might snatch a winner too.

Dan Potts: 6.5 - Caught out at times when he gave the ball away leading to some forays down his flank. Misfortune with injury struck again though as he had to be stretchered off.

Glen Rea: 7.5 - Restored to central defence and relished the challenge up against Proctor as he won his headers and made some fine interventions and clearances. Threat from set-pieces too as almost grabbed another goal.

Alan Sheehan: 7.5 - Good to see his partnership with Rea once more as the pair looked solid as they had done last term, restricting the Cumbrians to very little. High standard of set-plays was unusually off for probably the first time this season.

Olly Lee: 7.5 - Back in the side and after a first half in which Town couldn’t really gain the initiative looked to be relishing the task second half. Early caution didn’t stunt his willingness as he won his tackles and played some probing passes too.

Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu: 7.5 - Again, drove Luton forward from deep as he was released slightly by the inclusion of Lee. Remains such a vital part of Town’s midfield with his energetic displays.

Jordan Cook: 7.5 - Made some fine breaks on the right hand side and a few bits of lovely trickery brought him some space. Just couldn’t deliver that killer final ball or shot as Carlisle defended for their lives.

Luke Gambin: 7 - Started brightly at the tip of the diamond as he picked up the second balls well, but unable to create that golden opportunity for his strikers.

Danny Hylton: 6.5 - Not quite at his best on the evening as early booking meant he had to tread carefully. Occasionally held on to the ball too long when others were better placed, although might have won it but for Gillespie’s fingertips.

Isaac Vassell: 6.5 - Few moments where he got on the outside of the home defence, but Town didn’t get forward enough in the first half. Might have done better with a header until withdrawn for Marriott.

Jack Marriott (SUB): 7 - Lively outing from Marriott who went close from range. Definitely strengthening his case for a recall.

James Justin (SUB): 6 - Replaced the injured Potts and tried to drive forward, though put his side in trouble once by losing possession.

Ollie Palmer (SUB): 6 - On for the final 10 minutes but didn’t really have any sights of goal.
