Hatters youngsters tipped for a bright future by Howells

Luton's talented youngsters have a great chance to make a name for themselves at Kenilworth Road according to former Hatter Jake Howells.

The 25-year-old, who himself came through the ranks at Luton before leaving last week, saw James Justin and Tyreeq Bakinson make their first team debuts during his last appearance for the club, the 4-1 win over Exeter recently.

Defender Frankie Musonda also came on once more, as Howells said: “The boys deserve it, they train hard every day and work hard and I’m over the moon for them.

“Two got their debuts and Frankie’s come in and I think that’s his second or third appearance, so that’s well deserved, hopefully they have good careers now.

“They’re good lads, they work hard day in day out, that’s what you should do, that’s what I did.

“I just wanted to play games to get any sort of minutes in the first team is a privilege and they would be very happy to get their first appearances, I’m proud of them.”

Howells knows full well just how vital it is for a club like Luton to produce their own players, having witnessed a dearth of homegrown talent playing in the first team over recent years.

He continued: “One of the main points I signed when I was 15 was the history of the players that have come through, gone on and played so high like Curtis (Davies) and Leon (Barnett) and they’ve done so well, it’s nice to see.

“We haven’t had too many come through since me I suppose for other reasons.

“These boys have got a chance now, they’ve come on, it’s fully deserved and I’m really happy for them.”
