Hotshot Christie hits hat-trick in AFC Dunstable romp

AFC Dunstable continued their challenge at the top of the Molten Spartan SML Premier Division with a 5-0 victory at Oxhey Jets on Tuesday night.

BJ Christie was again the star with a hat-trick (13, 61 and 86), while James Baldry (51) and John Cooper (75) were also on target.

It means that Christie has now scored nine goals in four league games, while full-back Courtney Massey has remarkably provided eight of the assists.

Hotshot Christie was denied after 10 minutes when a defender managed to clear a goalbound shot and five minutes later Massey rampaged down the right and put an inch-perfect ball into the path of Christie who made no mistake from close range.

The second goal was scored direct from a corner by skipper Baldry just after the break and five minutes later Christie got his second with an expertly finished goal similar his opener.

Neat combination play involving Chris Francis and Craig Butler set up Cooper to expertly finish from a tight angle for the fourth goal and Christie rounded off a great individual performance and a comprehensive victory after 80 minutes with a rasping shot from just inside the box.

Manager Alex Butler added: “We have started the season strongly, scoring goals and playing some exciting football but must not get carried away.

“The real test will be when we come across quality opposition, such as the Vase game versus former Football League side Rushden & Diamonds at Creasey a week Saturday.

“This promises to be a cracker, with R&D likely to be bringing along 400 or so fans.”

AFC host Leverstock at Creasey Park on Saturday at 3pm.
