Hylton revelling in forward partnership with Vassell
Striker Danny Hylton was quick to praise the efforts of strike partner Isaac Vassell after the pair continued their combination against Yeovil Town last weekend.
Hatters boss Nathan Jones has opted for the duoe, who have started the last seven games together upfront, with Vassell’s lightning pace making Luton a real threat, particularly on the coutner attack.
The former Plymouth and Truro City attacker’s speed certainly wasn’t lost on Hylton, who said: “Vass is another one who is so fast and so strong.
“A simple ball down the side of a defence and he just makes it look easy, he brushes defenders aside.
“He gives them 10 yards and beats them by five, so it’s nice to play with him, as he works his socks off as well.
“Whoever plays there whether it’s me, Vass, (Jack) Marriott or Ollie Palmer, we’ve got four forwards that want to play and are first team strikers.
“So whoever the gaffer decides to play with I’m sure will do the business.”
It was Vassell who played a major role in Hylton’s second of the afternoon at Huish Park as after being found by Jake Gray’s ball forward, he linked up with Stephen O’Donnell, who popping up on the left flank, played Town’s top scorer through to coolly beat Artur Krysiak.
The striker continued: “I couldn’t quite believe how it just opened up. It was great counter attack, but I couldn’t believe they had no-one back.
“Vass has held it up and Sods has played a nice ball across. I took my touch and when I saw the keeper coming out, he made up my mind I was going to go round him, and I did and managed to score.
“I knew they (Yeovil defenders) were coming back, but you don’t try to hit the leather off the ball there. Just tried to pass it in with a little bit of power and thankfully it went in.” That striker took Hylton to 22 for the campaign, as he said: “Personally, it’s going really well, but I’ve said many times before, it’s not about me and my personal tally, it’s about us winning games and getting three points.
“Obviously I’m very happy to get the two goals and the main thing was it got us off to a good start and helped us on to our way to three points.”
Meanwhile, Hylton himself was named PFA player of the month award for February after an online vote by supporters, as Jones said: “I’m pleased for Danny and ironically it’s the fans one as well.
“So judging by his relationship with some fans it’s quite ironic. But hes a wonderful player. We love Danny here and it’s well deserved.”
Meanwhile, on Hylton’s superb season so far, team-mate Glen Rea added: “He’s doing alright isn’t he? I don’t want to get to his head, but he’s doing all right.
“He leads the line well, Vass as well, Jack, Ollie too. We’ve got good players all over, there’s strength in depth and Danny’s done well.”
