Dunstable Town finally ended their terrible run of form at Creasey Park as they defeated local rivals Hitchin Town 2-1 on Saturday.

The Blues had not triumphed since September 20, taking one point from a possible 36, drawing once and losing 11 in that time.

However, the hosts fielded new signing Danny Talbot, who had joined from Chesham United, but Hitchin went close early on through Nat Peacock.

However, it was Dunstable who took the lead on 19 minutes when Ben Walster brought down Charlie Henry in the box and Chris Marsh converted the penalty.

Six minutes later, Hitchin were level though when Michael Noon and Peacock combined for Luton Town loanee Ian Rees to score.

Talbot saw his free kick tipped over by keeper Charlie Horlock as Dunstable’s on-loan Hatters midfielder Charlie Smith was fortunate not to see red for kicking out at Lucas Kirkpatrick.

In the second period, the visitors’ Callum Donnelly chipped on to the roof of the net, but Adam Watkins began to influence the midfield battle, winning challenge after challenge.

The Blues had the lead again on 61 minutes when Shane Blackett’s instinctive shot was parried by Horlock only for Jemale McKenzie-Lowe to score his 12th goal of the season.

Henry then fired into the side-netting, before Dunstable keeper Charlie May’s clearance rebounded off Brett Donnelly for Kirkpatrick to level, but the goal was ruled out for offside as the hosts held on for long overdue victory.

This weekend, the hosts visit Truro City.
