The Hatters started poorly, as keeper Hollie Staples was called into action, before MK went ahead on 10 minutes when ex-Luton player Lauren Goodier netted.

Shortly after the goal, midfielder Lydia Radley fell awkwardly and badly broke her wrist as she was forced to leave the field.

It was then one way traffic until half time as Staples pulled off a host of saves, including one excellent tip over.

After the break, Town woke up and Jess McKay was denied by the Dons keeper from distance, while Rachel Kosky’s corner was blasted over by Michelle Byrne.

Rebecca Kane and Zara Carroll both had shots blocked, while late on, Remii Bains went close.

Manager Nikki Baker said: “It was very frustrating to start so poorly and that cost us as it was like watching two different teams in the first half and second half.

“If we could apply ourselves consistently like we did in the second half throughout the whole game, we would give ourselves a much better chance, but it is costly at this level.”
