Jones hails Town's '˜fantastic' away display

Goals from the recalled Paddy McCourt and Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu ended a run of four games without a win for Luton as Jones led his side to a first victory in his second game in charge.

The Luton chief said: “I thought we were excellent. Our work-rate, again, another clean sheet, and I thought our endeavour and everything we did, was top notch.

“We could have passed it better, had a little bit more fluency in a lot of our play, but to come away, it’s a fantastic away performance.

“The goals I thought were superb goals. The first one, an outstanding move, great finish, and second, a great finish from a young lad again.

“I think we can better though. Someone asked me on Thursday that Luton have never beaten Mansfield, well we have. Apparently six games without a goal too, we’ve put that to bed, so hopefully I won’t be hearing those questions for a little while.

“But I thought they were excellent, the application, the way the lads have gone about they’ve worked since I’ve come in has been outstanding and I think we saw little bits of it.”

Jones was forced into six changes for the fixture, with Mark Tyler, Danny Green, Magnus Okuonghae and Ryan Hall all out injured, while Jack Marriott and Paul Benson dropped to the bench.

On his selection, Jones continued: “They were all enforced, the injury list has been unbelievable.

“Since I lost four from the game last week, we lost one or two this week again and then a couple of changes we made changes to change things up.

“Fortunately enough the two changes we did make tactical ones come to fruition, so we’re happy.”

Hatters look to be taking on board what Jones is trying to instil into them as well, with a far greater emphasis on passing to feet and building from the back noticeable throughout the 90 minutes at the One Call Stadium.

The new boss added: “We work on a lot of stuff, we’ve done a lot of structural stuff with them, and they’ve just taken it on board. They’re sponges at the minute, which is going to need to continue, because we want to get better, we don’t want to be where we are in the league, we don’t want to be, we have eyes up not down and that’s got to continue.

“I’m a very proud manager, I’m a real proud manager. It’s a start, we’re happy with that start and we want to build on that start.”
