Jones: I learnt more about my players during Boro shambles
Luton Town boss Nathan Jones believes he knows a great deal more about his side following their 1-0 defeat at home to Stevenage on Saturday.
The Hatters chief admitted he was left feeling ‘sick to his stomach’ after the awful display which saw Michael Tonge steal victory with late penalty.
When asked he it would have learned more about his side after such an abject performance, Jones said: “I probably have, I think that could be a fair point, I could have learnt quite a lot about them and it’s disappointing.
“They’re not in the position they are for any reason other than they haven’t been good enough over a consistent amount of time and they have to put that right.
“I have learned a lot about certain players, I’m not getting carried away it wasn’t an horrific performance, we didn’t get smashed, but we didn’t impose ourselves on the game and overall, we were nowhere near.
“I’m not going to punish people though as we’re looking to move forward, we’ll work hard, we’ll graft, get right at it.”
The result made it two successive defeats in a row without scoring at Kenilworth Road, as Luton have only tasted success five times in 19 games in front of their own fans this term
On such a poor home record, Jones continued: “There must be something that’s not quite clicking with them as I don’t think up until now that’s been a problem.
“I don’t think our performance levels haven’t been good, we’ve been proactive, worked hard, grafted, given them performances, got results.
“But today is indefensible, I can’t defend how they went about their work and that’s the the worst thing about it.
“The level of performance, I think where did that come from? As I didn’t envisage it, I didn’t see it, but it’s a learning curve.”
When asked about Luton’s lack of home wins this term, striker Josh McQuoid added: “I don’t really follow those stats, but from our point of view, the main thing is winning games and we haven’t been doing enough of that.
“So hopefully with the performances those stats will change and we can start to climb that league a bit more.
